ASEAN Secretary General Aims to Expand Trade and Attract More Investments to the Bloc

Secretary General of ASEAN has expressed his vision to expand trade and attract more investments to the ASEAN region, and raised the capacity building plan of ASEAN citizens to enhance their capacity and competitiveness. H.E. Secretary General KAO Kim Hourn made the remark while paying a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) H.E. SUN Chanthol, at the CDC office in Phnom Penh on Mar. 12. For his part, DPM H.E. SUN Chanthol informed his guest about Cambodia's national development plans such as national infrastructure development plans on major projects of both land, waterway and airway, especially the Funan Techo Canal - the first historic project in Cambodia's waterway transport sector to connect the Mekong River system to the sea route. He also mentioned about Cambodia's Comprehensive Intermodal Transport and Logistics Master Plan (CIT-MP) 2023-2033, with seven integrated master plans, including roads, railways, river transport , maritime transport, air transport, logistics, and intermodal transport with a total of 174 projects worth US$36,6 billion capital investment. According to H.E. SUN Chanthol, the CDC has been implementing her investment project registration modernisation in line with one of the five key priorities of the 7th-mandate Royal Government of Cambodia (people, road, water, electricity and technology) through the creation of a portal allowing investors to apply for their QIP (Qualified Investment Project) registration at the CDC more easily, faster and more transparent.
