Oddar meanchey: The ASEAN Observer Team (AOT), led by the Head of Mission under the Philippine Chairmanship, continued their mission to observe, verify, and report on the border situation at Chey Chumneas Border Checkpoint in Thmar Da commune, Veal Veng district, Pursat province.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, a press release issued by the Spokeswoman of Cambodia's Ministry of National Defence stated that the mission, facilitated by the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG), took place on June 6 at 11:50 a.m. The visit aimed to review compliance with and implementation of measures contained in the Joint Declaration following the ceasefire.
The Ministry highlighted that the area had experienced incursions, the installation of barbed wire, and the deployment of shipping containers by Thai military forces. These actions, Cambodia claimed, continue to prevent many displaced Cambodian families from returning to their homes.
The visit by the AOT underscored the importance of resuming land demarcation work through the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) promptly.
The Ministry referred to Point 3 of the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) dated Dec. 27, 2025, which supports survey and demarcation efforts to facilitate the safe, peaceful, and dignified return of affected civilians.
Cambodia reiterated its stance that it does not recognise any change to international boundaries through the use of force or unilateral territorial claims. The Ministry maintained that developments in the area do not affect Cambodia's legal position regarding its borders.
The Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defence reaffirmed Cambodia's commitment to fully and faithfully implement the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the GBC, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand dated Oct. 26, 2025, and all related agreements.
Cambodia stated that these efforts are intended to support rapid recovery, restore normal conditions, and promote lasting peace and stability.
