Phnom penh: A new ten-week programme designed to boost science and technology skills among young Cambodian women is now underway, launched through a collaboration between university student volunteers and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports’ Centre for Digital and Distance Education.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the initiative has enrolled 110 female high school students from across Phnom Penh municipality, offering a comprehensive curriculum built on four core components: Meetings with accomplished women to share life experience and insights; Studying foundational scientific and technological research methods; Hands-on sessions conducting science experiments; Team-based development of model scientific and technological research projects.
The programme’s third week featured a highlight event with distinguished guest speakers: Ms. Yim Sotheary, Director of the Sneha Centre, and Ms. Imphan Vandy, Director of CBVH Jewellery. Leveraging their significant expertise in psychological education and women’s empowerment, these two leaders led a dynamic and engaging discussion with the students.
The session prompted critical thinking and self-reflection among the participants, while also encouraging them to appreciate the support of their families and communities.
Organisers noted that the exchange provided both inspiration and a practical roadmap for the students to strengthen their personal capacities and pursue future studies in science and technology.
