UNDP Pledges Fund Raising for Energy Projects in Cambodia

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Cambodia has pledged to seek assistance from other development partners for the development of Cambodia's energy sector, focusing particularly on energy efficiency projects and the fight against climate change.

Ms. Alissar Chaker, UNDP Director in Cambodia, made the promise in a meeting here on Nov. 30 with H.E. Suy Sem, Minister of Mines and Energy.

The meeting was aimed to learn more about the vision of the ministry and priority projects related to the development of energy efficiency, as well as more opportunities and new initiatives to continue and promote cooperation in the energy sector.

The two sides pledged to further strengthen the implementation of the memorandum of understanding and energy partnership.

H.E. Suy Sem briefed his guests about the government’s key points in the energy sector, including energy development goal, energy development master plan elaborated with the ADB, and progress in drafting the national policy on energency efficiency and the position of the Cambodian energy sector related to climate issues.
