Six New Villages Established in Displaced Camp in Banteay Meanchey

Banteay meanchey: The Royal Government of Cambodia has announced the establishment of six new villages in a displacement camp in Banteay Meanchey province.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, a Prakas issued by the Ministry of Interior on Wednesday detailed that the new villages are named Rong Cham 1, Rong Cham 2, Rong Cham 3, Rong Cham 4, Rong Cham 5, and Rong Cham 6. These villages were created by separating them from Sla Kram village in Sla Kram commune, Svay Chek district, Banteay Meanchey province.

The management structure of the newly established villages will adhere to the Ministry's directive from March 17, 2006. This directive outlines the procedures for selecting village chiefs, organising their assumption of office, appointing assistants, and defining the roles, responsibilities, and working methods of village administrations.

Rong Cham village, meaning 'waiting village,' was named by Acting Head of State Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen during his visit to the displacement camp in June. On that occasion, Samdech Techo clarified that the establishment of Rong Cham village does not imply that Cambodia is relinquishing its territorial claims. Instead, the term 'waiting' reflects the people's hope for a peaceful resolution to the border issue and their aspiration to return to their homes in safety and dignity.
