Siem Reap Town and Kralanh District Declared Mine-Free

Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA) has declared Siem Reap city and Kralanh district of Siem Reap province landmine free.

H.E. Ly Thuch, Senior Minister and CMAA First Vice President made the announcement in an official event early this week, adding that the province's two more districts, Puok and Sreisnom, will achieve the same status later this year.

He spoke highly of the HALO Trust for the move through the support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation with contribution from Switzerland, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, Ireland and U.S. Humanitarian Demining Research and Development (HD R&D).

The senior minister also thanked the Siem Reap provincial administration under the leadership of H.E. Governor Tea Seiha and other stakeholders for the good cooperation for demining mission.

About 48,936,499 square metres in other 10 districts of Siem Reap are suspected to still have landmines and they were classified into 570 minefields.
