Seven Cities Win Clean City Awards for 2022-2025

Seven cleanest cities in the country have been selected in the National Clean City Contest after Cambodia has reopened the country to welcome back foreign tourists since November 2021, along with the campaign “Clean Cambodia” for the upcoming Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in 2023.

The seven cities obtaining the Clean City Awards for 2022-2025 will represent Cambodia to compete with other ASEAN cities in an all-ASEAN contest.

Those cities are Sihanoukville, Battambang city, Siem Reap city, Daun Penh district, Kep city, Kampot city, and Kampong Cham city. They are rated with three flowers of Romduol, the national flower, for the 2022-2025 period. Three flowers are rated as the best, followed by two flowers and a flower.

Tourism Minister H.E. Thong Khon said that the capital, provincial, and local administrations have to join the National Clean City Contest, and the participation of citizens, tourists and other stakeholders is also required to develop a city with clean environment, clean hygiene, and attractive to national and international tourists.

“The purpose of the Clean City Contest is to encourage our cities to be clean, to attract tourists, and local authorities at all levels have to play a key role in the development of a clean city as well as the encouragement of local citizens’ participation,” he said.

The ministry instructed all authorities and the private sector to join hands to raise awareness on environmental sanitation and the importance of having a clean city, particularly promote tourism destinations and environment sustainable development.
