Senior Official Urges Media to Boost Promotion of Local Goods Amid Border Tensions

Phnom penh: A senior information official has called on journalists to intensify efforts to promote domestically made products, citing the need to bolster economic growth and national pride during ongoing border issues with Thailand.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the appeal was made by H.E. Dr. Chhay Sophal, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Information, at the opening ceremony for the training course on Strengthening Capacity in Information and Public Opinion Work. The event was held in Prey Veng provincial city this morning for trainees from the Provincial Departments of Information of Prey Veng, Kandal, and Svay Rieng, as well as the Phnom Penh Municipal Department of Information.

H.E. Dr. Chhay Sophal emphasised that as Cambodia navigates challenges along its border, the media has a critical role to play in diversifying coverage and amplifying the reach of local goods. He urged media professionals, in both the public and private sectors, to enhance collaboration with relevant government ministries and provincial departments.

“This is a golden opportunity for us to promote local products,” he stated. “All journalists must collaborate closely with technical officers to increase public awareness and inspire people to prioritise domestic goods.”

He also called on Cambodian producers to improve the quality and value of their offerings to be more competitive. In an era of regional integration, he noted, the promotion of domestic industry is crucial even as cross-border trade continues.

The Secretary of State concluded by reminding journalists to strictly adhere to professional codes of ethics and relevant laws, which he described as essential safeguards in their work.
