Senior Japanese Official: Cambodia Recognised as Peace Provider

“Cambodia demonstrates a good model in field of international peace and security, and is recognised as a peace provider,” praised H.E. KANO Takehiro, Director General of the International Peace Cooperation Headquarters, Cabinet Office of Japan.

The Japanese senior official made the praise during his courtesy call upon Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. PRAK Sokhonn, here at the ministry on Mar. 7.

According to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation AKP received last night, both sides expressed satisfaction with the robust bilateral relationship, upgraded to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership this year. They touched base on peacekeeping and mine action partnership in bilateral, trilateral and the UN frameworks.

The Deputy Prime Minister recalled with appreciation the significant contribution of Japan’s Self-Defense Force to peacekeeping process as well as Japan’s ongoing support for the Kingdom’s reconstruction and comprehensive development.

The Director General affirmed Japan’s readiness to work with Cambodia as a host country of the UN Triangular Partnership Programme in 2024 to strengthen regional engineering capabilities in the peacekeeping missions.

Both sides reiterated the commitment to further enhancing collaboration in the spheres of international peace and security through training and equipment provision.

They also exchanged views on some regional issues. The Director General applauded the success of Cambodia’s chairmanship of ASEAN and the challenging role of the Special Envoy of the ASEAN Chair to Myanmar last year, and emphasised that the hard work of Cambodia is well recognised by Japan and international community.
