Phnom penh: Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has called on the Cambodian people to continue supporting the Royal Government in defending the nation, stressing that national defence is a shared responsibility between the government and its citizens.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, during the opening ceremony of the 33rd National Congress of Buddhist Monks at the National Institute of Education in Phnom Penh, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, who also serves as President of the Supreme Privy Council to His Majesty the King, expressed gratitude to the public for their ongoing support, particularly through contributions of materials and assistance to the armed forces.

He emphasised that Cambodia’s highest priority is to protect the nation from further territorial loss, noting that Cambodia has already lost significant land in the past. Samdech Techo Hun Sen also reaffirmed that Cambodia has not ceded any territory in exchange for peace, and stressed that the Prime Minister has clearly stated there is no agreement with Thailand involving land concessions.

He reiterated Cambodia’s firm commitment to resolving border issues with Thailand through peaceful means, in line with previously agreed principles and mechanisms, especially the spirit of the Kuala Lumpur Joint Statement, in order to achieve lasting peace between the two neighbouring countries.
