Second Expressway Project to Break Ground in June 2023

Cambodia’s second expressway, linking Phnom Penh capital to Bavet city of Svay Rieng province, at the border with Vietnam, is expected to break ground in June 2023.

The information was shared by H.E. Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister, Minister of Public Works and Transport, at a press conference here yesterday.

A concessional agreement on the construction project would be signed on Nov. 7, 2022 during the visit of Chinese Premier to Cambodia to attend the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits and Related Summits, he added.

Once the Phnom Penh-Bavet expressway constructed, H.E. Senior Minister underlined, the southeastern provinces of Prey Veng and Svay Rieng will see more progress.

After the expressway construction, he pointed out, a two-kilometre-long bridge at Lovea Em area will be built.

The country’s first expressway, connecting Phnom Penh to the deep-sea port in Sihanoukville of Preah Sihanouk province, has opened to public for free on one-month trial basis since Oct. 1.

The construction of this 187-kilometre-long toll road, invested by the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), cost some US$2 billion.
