SEOUL, Samsung Engineering Co., the construction unit of Samsung Group, said Thursday it will change the company's name to Samsung EandA at a shareholders meeting next month to reflect its future business plans. Samsung Engineering's board of directors on Thursday approved the name change plan to put it to a vote at the annual general meeting of shareholders on March 21, the company said in a statement. The "E" in Samsung EandA stands for Engineers or the company's mainstay plant engineering technologies, and the "A" stands for Ahead, it said. The company has stepped up efforts to preemptively secure technologies involving hydrogen and carbon neutrality in the era of energy transition and develop related business projects. In 2024, it is targeting an operating profit of 800 billion won (US$599 million) on sales of 10 trillion won. Last year, its operating profit jumped 41 percent to 993.13 billion won from 702.94 billion won a year earlier. Sales rose 5.7 percent to 10.63 trillion won from 10.05 trillion won.
