S. Korea evacuates 2 citizens from Haiti via helicopter

SEOUL, South Korea evacuated two of its citizens from Haiti via helicopter Tuesday, the foreign ministry said, as gang violence has gripped the island nation. The two were flown from Haiti's capital city Port-au-Prince to the nearby country of the Dominican Republic upon their wishes, the ministry said, noting further details would be withheld to ensure the safety of other South Koreans in Haiti. "We will continue to explore various safety measures for the safety of our people staying in Haiti," the ministry said. Around 70 South Koreans are currently believed to be in Haiti, which has seen a rise in violence and poverty since the assassination of then President Jovenel Moise in 2021. Source: Yonhap News Agency
