PM Hun Sen Urges for More Cooperation between Cambodian-Vietnamese Border Provinces

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has urged Cambodia and Vietnam to further promote the cooperation between their border provinces.

While receiving a courtesy visit from H.E. Vo Van Thuong, Politburo Member and Permanent Member of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee’s Secretariat, at the January 7 Palace in Phnom Penh this morning, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, also President of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) said to foster the relations between the two parties and countries, the priority is to boost the cooperation between their border provinces, mainly in the areas of security, flow of goods, trade facilitation and prevention of illegal activities such as drug trafficking, human trafficking, etc., according to H.E. Eang Sophalleth, Assistant to the Cambodian Premier.

H.E. Vo Van Thuong conveyed greetings from the Vietnamese top leaders to Samdech Techo Hun Sen and highly valued the development of Cambodia. He said his visit, which coincide with the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Cambodia and Vietnam and the 45th anniversary of Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s march to topple the genocidal regime of Pol Pot, is aimed to strengthen and expand the relationship between both parties and nations.

The CPV senior official sought the agreement in principle from the Cambodian Prime Minister on six key points: Deepen the relationship between party and party to be realistic, Boost the exchange of visits between party leaders of the two countries, Promote the relationship between the provinces and capitals of the two countries, Enhance the cooperation in the field of defense and security, Strengthen the cooperation in investment and trade, and Boost cooperation in regional and global frameworks.

In reply, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his support for the six points raised by H.E. Vo Van Thuong.
