PM Hun Sen Receives Courtesy Visit from Lao Foreign Minister

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received here at the Peace Palace this morning a courtesy visit from visiting Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic H.E. Saleumxay Kommasith.

According to H.E. Eang Sophalleth, Assistant to the Cambodian Premier, in the courtesy meeting, H.E. Saleumxay Kommasith conveyed greetings from Lao President and Prime Minister to Samdech Techo Hun Sen.

He also expressed his congratulations to Samdech Techo Hun Sen and the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) on its landslide victory in the recent Commune/Sangkat Council Election, stressing that the results reflect the people’s trust on Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s leadership and right policy.

The Lao foreign minister reiterated his country’s commitment to support Cambodia as the Chair of ASEAN this year, especially the Kingdom’s efforts in finding solutions to the Myanmar issue.

H.E. Saleumxay Kommasith profoundly thanked the Royal Government of Cambodia for its assistance to Laos in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and in other domains.

Besides, he sought recommendations from Samdech Techo Hun Sen to further tighten the relations and cooperation between the two neighbouring countries, before the Cambodia-Laos Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) meeting.

In reply, Samdech Techo Prime Minister thanked H.E. Saleumxay Kommasith for the greetings and the congratulations on election victory as well as for Laos’ support for Cambodia’s ASEAN chairmanship and endeavours in finding solutions to Myanmar issue.

For the bilateral cooperation, he underlined, both countries should jointly assess it and set forth policy to help and complement each other for mutual interest.

Cambodia and Laos are going to hold the 14th JCBC Meeting in Phnom Penh on July 7 under the co-chairmanship of H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and his Lao counterpart H.E. Saleumxay Kommasith.

According to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the 14th JCBC Meeting between Cambodia and Laos will review the progress made pursuant to the Agreed Minutes of the previous JCBC meeting and explore other potential areas of future cooperation in order to further strengthen and advance the close and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries for mutual benefits of the two peoples.
