PM Highlights Labour Development Vision

The Cambodian Prime Minister marks May 1 International Labour Day with renewed commitment to Cambodian labour advancement, fast-racking positive achievements by far. In his open message circulated recently to celebrate the 138th anniversary of the day, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet highlighted that its theme 'One enterprise as One Peaceful Community' represented a labour development vision of the Royal Government of Cambodia. The vision stands as a national movement at the workplace where concerned parties, especially employees and employers, join hands to ensure legal compliance, professional relations harmonisation, and social responsibility by enterprise, he added. According to Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, guided by Pentagonal Strategy-Phase 1, the Royal Government in the first quarter of this year licensed 106 investment projects worth US$2.2 billion in capital that can create about 107,000 new jobs. During the period, the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training has registered 2,874 new en terprises, pushing the total number of registered enterprises to 43,849, which employs 1,793,467 workers. While wage increase negotiation happens annually, the number of dispute resolutions, the social security net, and the promotion of the rights of professional workers' unions have improved noticeably. From there, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet listed in the letter some strategic recommendations that include the fast-tracking of existing achievements and new endeavours, focusing on quality skills advancement through private sector engagement.
