PM Emphasises Importance of Religions’ Contribution in Maintaining Peace and Stability

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen this morning called on all religions, especially Buddhism, to join hands to maintain peace, political stability, security and social order.

“This is very important because ‘religions cannot live in war, but in peace’,” said the Premier at the 8th get-together with some 1,500 Achars and Acharinis (laymen and laywomen) at Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre in Phnom Penh.

But to put it more broadly, he added, everything, not only religions, needs peace. It is impossible to do anything in a time of war.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen spoke highly of the contribution of Buddhism in particular and all religions in general to the country’s socio-economic development. He also raised about the unbreakable relationship between the Buddhism world and the civil world.

Buddhism is the state religion of Cambodia. At present, there are more than 5,000 pagodas and about 60,000 monks across the Kingdom.
