PM: All Cambodian Citizens Required for At Least 3 Doses of COVID-19 Vaccines

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen this afternoon announced that all the Cambodian people across the country must have at least three doses of vaccines against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Premier made the announcement in a new voice message, explaining that the requirement is aimed to build a strong herd immunity so that all or most of the health preventive measures such as mask wearing, safety distancing and so on can be eased, and the country’s full socio-economic reopening process continues without going backwards.

Since before the Khmer New Year celebrations until now, he added, the infection rate remains low and there is no sign of mass spread. “We are considering to lift mandatory mask wearing in some more provinces or some parts of provinces, in addition to the previous four provinces, to reduce people's expenses,” he said.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen reaffirmed that vaccination is the driving force of this success and appealed to his compatriots to receive the 3rd shot to reach a strong herd immunity.

According to the Prime Minister, only more than 8 million people in Cambodia have got the 3rd jab, and there remain over 6 more million people who have not received the booster dose yet.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen once again advised the National Ad-hoc Commission for COVID-19 Vaccination to focus attention to those at crowded areas, including factory and construction workers, vendors and other informal workers, and students, youths and children.

On April 10, 2022, Samdech Techo Prime Minister announced to allow people in the provinces of Rattanakiri, Mondulkiri, Stung Treng and Preah Vihear to make their own decision whether or not to wear mask, i.e. mask wearing is no longer required in the four provinces.
