Phnom Penh to Have Sufficient Clean Water Supply by 2023

Some areas in Phnom Penh currently do not have enough clean water, but by the end of 2023, Phnom Penh will have sufficient clean water for its residents, according to the Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority (PPWSA).

The Director General H.E. Long Naro,said at a press conference organised here this morning by the Royal Government Spokesperson Unit that the PPWSA is constructing a water treatment plant in Bakheng area which is divided into two phases.

The first phase is now 70 percent complete, with a production capacity of about 195,000 cubic metres per day and the operation will commence in July and August 2022.

The second phase is capable of producing 195,000 cubic metres daily and is scheduled to operate by the end of the first quarter of 2024.

Additionally, H.E. Long Naro asked people in Phnom Penh capital and Takhmao town of Kandal province to economically consume clean water so that those residing on the outskirts are able to access sufficient clean water.

The daily water consumption in Phnom Penh and Takhmao town is currently more than 800,000 cubic metres, while the water supply by the PPWSA is only 600,000 cubic metres per day.
