Phnom penh: The National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) and the World Bank (WB) have lauded their fruitful cooperation, reaffirming their commitment to further deepening cooperation between the two institutions to support sustainable economic development.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the commitment was made during a meeting between NBC Governor H.E. Dr. Chea Serey and a WB delegation led by Mr. Carlos Felipe Jaramillo, the Bank's Vice President for the East Asia and Pacific (EAP) Region. Mr. Jaramillo highlighted Cambodia's economic potential in several key areas and the development of infrastructure that supports economic growth. He also expressed satisfaction with the previous cooperation between the two institutions.
NBC Governor Dr. Chea Serey emphasized the critical role of the banking sector in promoting economic development, focusing on enhancing access to financial services, maintaining exchange rate stability, and ensuring banking system stability. She also addressed several challenges, providing insight into global geopolitical developments, including oil price fluctuations in international markets. Furthermore, she acknowledged the WB's strong collaboration in developing national financial regulatory frameworks and strategies.
The two sides reiterated their commitment to further boosting cooperation between the institutions to support sustainable economic development. The WB has been a key development partner of Cambodia for over 30 years, providing financial and technical assistance across various sectors.
Additionally, the WB delegation visited the Preah Srey I§anavarman Museum of Economy and Money (SOSORO) in Phnom Penh, which showcases Cambodia's economic history and development.
