The Ministry of Public Works and Transport issued a total of 26,659 special and personalised vehicle plates last year, earning some US$16 million.
Started in 2016, the special vehicle plate registration is priced higher than the normal ones, and the owners can keep the plate when selling their vehicles.
‘In 2023, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport registered a total of 652,163 vehicles, including 604 electric vehicles (EVs),’ H.E. Peng Ponea, Minister of Public Works and Transport said in the ministry’s annual meeting held here on Feb. 28.
From 1990 to December 2023, a total of 7,563,395 vehicles were registered, including 1,335 EVs, he said, stressing that the ministry has put into use 18 electric vehicle charging stations nationwide.
The Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) is committed to reducing pollution through the use of fuel-efficient vehicles and the switch to EVs – at least to 40 percent of the total cars and 70 percent of motorcycles by 2050.
The RGC has developed a strategic policy to
turn Cambodia into a regional and global production hub for automotive and electronic components, draw in more investment in the field, and boost exports.
