More Tour Package Sales to ASEAN Eco-Tourism Community Encouraged

H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, has urged for more sales of tour packages to ASEAN eco-tourism communities and other communities in Cambodia to national and international visitors to bring the sector to a new level.

The minister made the call while chairing a workshop to promote community and ecotourism in Upper Mekong and Phnom Thbeng Meanchey regions here in Phnom Penh early this week.

The minister voiced the push especially for tourism companies and tour package agencies under the framework of Cambodian Association of Travel Agents (CATA), Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) and other private tour operators.

He encouraged them to include in their packages Cambodia's five ecotourism communities, including Tang You Waterfall, Datavek, and Chak Angre in Phnom Thbeng Meanchey of Preah Vihea province; Koh Samseb in Kratie province; and Samros Koh Han in Stung Treng province.

He also called on development partners, national and international organisations to continue their support for the development of the five ecotourism communities.

Two of Cambodia's ecotourism communities – Samros Koh Han in Stung Treng province and Prey Thom Anlong Thom in Siem Reap province – won trophies from the 3rd ASEAN Community Based Tourism Award for ASEAN Tourism Standard at the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2023 in Indonesia.
