Ministry of Tourism Plans Greeting Event to Welcome Chinese Tourists

The Ministry of Tourism plans to hold a special event to welcome the arrival of Chinese tourists to Cambodia after the Chinese government announced to ease its zero-COVID policy allowing Chinese people, both tourists and business people to travel abroad.

Minister of Tourism H.E Thong Khon said on Jan. 11 that the greeting event is scheduled to take place at the airport in coming days.

“The Ministry of Tourism has been cooperating with the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation to welcome a large number of flights from China to Cambodia and find a suitable time to organise a warm welcome event for Chinese tourists to visit Cambodia,” he said.

He stated that after the Chinese government announced the reopening of the country on Jan. 8, until now, there are on average five daily Chinese flights to Cambodia.

Cambodia is ready to welcome Chinese tourists, as to mark the 65th anniversary of the establishment of Cambodia-China diplomatic ties, the Chinese and Cambodian sides plan to organise a number of events, including celebrations in Cambodia and China to promote the Cambodian-Chinese tourism movement.

In 2022, Cambodia received a total of 2.2 million international tourists, of then only 110,000 were Chinese tourists.

Tourism is one of the four pillars supporting the Cambodian economy.

In the pre-pandemic era, the Kingdom welcomed 6.6 million international tourists in 2019, generating US$4.92 billion in revenue.
