Mekong-Yunnan Media Cooperation Promoted

Media practitioners from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and Yunnan province of the People's Republic of China have pledged to further promote their cooperation for better sub-regional focus.

The pledge was made in a recent meeting between representatives of media organisations from the Mekong countries and Yunnan Daily Press Group and People's Daily at Yunnan province, China, as a part of the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Media Summit and Workshop taking place from June 30 to July 5.

Mr. Wang Tingyao, Deputy Editor-in-chief of Yunnan Daily Press Group and Director of Yunnan International Communication Centre for South and Southeast Asia, welcomed the visit of representatives of media oragaisations from the five countries to Yunnan province, stressing that the visit will not only further deepen the relations between people-to-people, but also foster more cooperation on media sector between Yunnan Daily and Mekong river nations.

Mr. Wang Tingyao underlined the cooperation with Mekong countries, stressing that Yunnan Daily Press Group has four journals of Mekong nations, including Cambodia, Thailand, Laos and Myanmar, as well as the seven-language website Yunnan gateway and accounts on social media like WeChat and Facebook.

The Mekong News Network is gaining popularity among the targeted audiences, continued the deputy editor-in-chief.

Yunnan Daily has now cooperated on mainstream newspapers with nine countries in the U.S., Malaysia, Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos, Bangladesh, India, Thailand and Indonesia, he added.

Yunnan Daily Press Group is the largest and most influential media company in Yunnan province. The Group now owns 9 newspapers, 9 magazines and several web portals, with Yunnan Daily and Yunnannet (www.yunnan.cn), "Yunnan Daily News" App as its flagship newspapers, website and new media. In recent years, Yunnan Daily Press Group has made efforts to promote its internationalisation by running multi-lingual newspapers, magazines, websites and social media accounts. Its news can be read by audiences from South and Southeast Asian countries and the U.S.

The Cambodian journalists attending the event are from the Agence Kampuchea Presse, Khmer Times, the Daum Ampil Media Centre, Apsara Media Services and Thmey Thmey Digital Media.
