MDEC Secures More Than RM360 Mln In Digital Export Opportunities At GITEX Global, ENS 2024


DUBAI, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation’s (MDEC) participation in the Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX) Global and Expand North Star (ENS) 2024 in Dubai has yielded more than RM360 million in export opportunities, a remarkable 10 per cent surge from what was achieved at these events last year.

The current value amount has surpassed the agency’s earlier target of RM300 million in digital export opportunities across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) regions.

However, MDEC head of digital industry acceleration Ir Wan Murdani Wan Mohamad believes that the final value of opportunities is expected to increase further when GITEX concludes later this week.

The five-day GITEX Global, the largest technology event in the world, will end on Oct 18, while ENS, a gathering for start-ups and investors, took place from Oct 13 to 16.

He hailed the current outcome as a testament to the robust appeal of Malaysia’s cutting-edge digital solutions, particularly in high
impact tech focus areas like artificial intelligence, financial technology, cybersecurity and Internet of things.

‘Both ENS and GITEX Global have proven to be excellent platforms for us to connect with potential partners and showcase our companies, offering opportunities not only within this region but also in markets beyond Dubai.

‘This significant increase underscores the strength and competitiveness of our companies in the global marketplace, with demand rapidly growing for their innovative solutions,’ he told Bernama.

Malaysia made a significant impact at ENS 2024 with its 120-square foot pavilion that was officiated by Consul General of Malaysia to Dubai Mohd Fadly Amri Aliaman and Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) Dubai UAE Trade Commissioner Megat Iskandar Ahmad Dassilah.

The pavilion featured 15 local technology companies — OmniNexus, Codon Genomics, ProximaX Malaysia, Wilstech, Vero Eco, Moovby, MDT Innovations, Forest Interactive, REDtone, Xanderia, TrackerHero, Kasatria
Technologies, Paywatch, GoFluence, and Numa Solution.

MDEC also promoted 25 Malaysia technology companies profiles to the ENS and GITEX Global 2024, including Soft Space Sdn Bhd, IQI Holdings Sdn Bhd, elliance Sdn Bhd, Juris Technologies Sdn Bhd, and Health Digital Technologies Sdn Bhd.

Wan Murdani said the participation of these Malaysian technology firms in the events yielded strong business prospects, which are expected to materialise over the next two to three years.

This demonstrates that the companies offer solutions, products, and services that are compelling enough for clients to seize the opportunities presented, he added.

He noted that the agency’s strategy of expanding into new international markets is aligned with Malaysia’s growing digital economy, which is projected to contribute 25.3 per cent to the national gross domestic product by 2025.

Wan Murdani emphasised that Malaysia’s presence at these global platforms not only expanded business networks and partnerships but also fortified the co
untry’s role as a digital leader in the ASEAN region.

‘Our success here amplifies Malaysia’s position as a premier digital gateway to ASEAN, opening doors to greater international collaboration and market expansion,’ he added.

ASEAN’s digital economy, expected to surpass US$1 trillion (US$1=RM4.29) by 2030, presents a significant opportunity for companies looking to expand into Southeast Asia, he said.
