Labour Ministry, SCIA Reach a MoU on Vocational Training of Cambodian Young People

The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training and Singapore Cambodia International Academy (SCIA) have reached a Memorandum of Understanding to cooperate in carrying out the Royal Government of Cambodia’s policy on vocational training for 1.5 million young people.

The MoU was signed by H.E. Ith Samheng, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, and Mr. TAN Wee Pin, Director of SCIA, at the ministry office in Phnom Penh on June 20.

H.E. Ith Samheng said that the Royal Government of Cambodia had instructed the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training to prepare a vocational training plan for some 1.5 million young Cambodians from poor and vulnerable families so as to improve their living conditions.

The Royal Government will bear the tuition costs and monthly stipends, H.E. Minister underlined.

For his part, Mr. TAN Wee Pin stated that the goal of this cooperation is to help further build the capacity of staff, workers, youth to meet the labour market needs in Cambodia.

Starting from August this year, the government will provide skill training to 1.5 million youth from poor and vulnerable families wherein they will receive cash subsidies during the capacity building period.
