KOICA Donates SUV Vehicles to Ministry of Health

KOICA has donated three SUV vehicles to the Ministry of Health (MoH) and Rattanakiri & Mondulkiri Provincial Health Departments (PHD).

This support is provided via the Project for Strengthening Maternal & Child Health in North-eastern Region of Cambodia, pointed out a KOICA's press release issued this afternoon,

Mr. Rho Hyunjun, Country Director of KOICA Cambodia Office and H.E. Eng Hout, Secretary of State of MoH, presided over the handover ceremony organised on Sept. 10 at the ministry.

These vehicles will play a key role for Cambodian project team to conduct monitoring and governance of project implementation, especially outreach activity, underlined the press release.

According to the same source, the Project for Strengthening Maternal and Child Health in North Eastern Provinces of Cambodia is a four-year project (2019-2023) implemented under a grant of the Republic of Korea via KOICA with a budget of US$7 million. This project is implemented at Rattanakiri and Mondulkiri provinces with the objective to improve maternal and newborn health through improving quality and accessibility of MCH service.

The project focuses on four main areas - 1) capacity building for health personnel, 2) improving environment of health facilities, 3) vitalising outreach service for marginalised areas and 4) raising community awareness.

So far, this project has provided various transportation means such as motorboats, motorbikes to health centres and to vulnerable communities. In addition, this project also planned to provide ambulances and essential medical equipment to health facilities at Rattanakiri and Mondulkiri provinces next year.

Beside this support, KOICA also plans to donate 10 ambulances and about 100,000 rapid test kits to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in Cambodia and over 50 percent of this support will be allocated to Rattanakiri and Mondulkiri provinces.
