Japanese Defence Minister Visits Cambodia

Japanese Defence Minister H.E. Kishi Nobuo has been on a visit in Cambodia to attend an informal ASEAN-Japan Defence Ministers’ Meeting.

This morning in Phnom Penh, H.E. Kishi Nobuo was received by Samdech Pichey Sena Tea Banh, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence.

In the bilateral meeting, Samdech Tea Banh lauded the joint efforts between Cambodia and Japan in maintaining their close ties in the field of defence, and thanked the Japanese side for supporting Cambodia's proposals related to the strengthening of Cambodian army’s capacity to contribute to regional peacekeeping.

H.E. Kishi Nobuo reiterated Cambodia's role as the Chair of ASEAN, stressing that 2022 is a meaningful year for Cambodia-Japan bilateral relations.

On the same day, Samdech Tea Banh also held talks with his Indonesian counterpart H.E. Prabowo Subianto, on the sidelines of the 16th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM), during which Samdech Tea Banh expressed his conviction that the relationship between the two ASEAN nations will be further fostered through this visit of H.E. Prabowo Subianto in Cambodia.

The Cambodian Ministry of National Defence is hosting the 16th ADMM and Related Meetings on June 21-22.
