Budapest: Hungarian President H.E. Tam¡s Sulyok has congratulated Cambodia and Thailand on their recently signed peace deal, hailing it as a significant achievement for regional stability. The accord was formalised on Oct. 26 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia by Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and his Thai counterpart H.E. Anutin Charnvirakul.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, in a meeting with Cambodia’s National Assembly President, Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, on Oct. 27, President Sulyok expressed his hope that the agreement would normalise the border situation and restore peaceful and harmonious lives for the peoples of both nations. Their discussions in Budapest centred on the universal value of peace. President Sulyok underscored the global desire for stability, noting that while conflicts erupt easily, ending them remains a profound challenge. He also voiced Hungary’s support for a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine.
The meeting occurred during Samdech Khuon Sudary’s official visit to Hungary. She conveyed warm greetings from His Majesty King Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, and Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet. Samdech Khuon Sudary characterised the parliamentary delegation’s visit as “productive and fruitful,” highlighting the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding with Hungarian National Assembly. The agreements, one at the parliamentary level and another between their secretariats-general, are designed to open a new chapter in bilateral cooperation.
President Sulyok confirmed Hungary’s readiness to warmly welcome a forthcoming state visit by His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni, describing it as a landmark symbol of the enduring friendship between the two countries. The Hungarian leader also endorsed Samdech Khuon Sudary’s positive assessment of bilateral relations and commended Cambodia’s developmental progress. He expressed strong confidence in the Kingdom’s ability to achieve its goal of becoming an upper middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income nation by 2050.
Concluding the talks, Samdech Khuon Sudary proposed President Sulyok to help identify and promote new areas of cooperation, particularly in trade, tourism, culture, and education, for the mutual benefit of both nations.
