Government Adopts Long-term Supportive Policy for Residents Volunteering to Move out of Angkor Resort

The Royal Government of Cambodia has set forth a policy to support the residents who had volunteered to move out of Angkor Archeological Park in Siem Reap provincial city to Tani village, Run Taek commune, Banteay Srei district, Siem Reap province.

The policy will last at least ten years, underlined Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen this morning at a get-together with more than 1,000 volunteer families at Run Taek commune.

The policy which will begin in October will range from monthly financial support for poor households to financial assistance for pregnant women during pregnancy, during and after delivery until their newborns reach 2 years of age.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen ordered the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation to register and provide ID-Poor card to those who have not yet had it (about 70 to 80 percent of the over 1,000 volunteer families) so that they can benefit from the government’s supportive policy.

Besides, each household will receive 1,400,000 Riel (Cambodian currency roughly US$350), milled rice, instant noodle, canned fish, and so on, in addition to a 20mx30m plot of land.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also praised Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Chea Sophara, Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction and his team for their hard work, and thanked the residents for their cooperation and voluntary move out of the Angkor resort and other areas under the management of the Apsara National Authority.

Infrastructure such as roads, clean water, electricity, school buildings, health centre, market, telephone and internet services, etc. have been being built and installed at the area with an aim to turn Run Taek commune into a city in the future.
