Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E Koy Kuong, told AKP this morning that the Royal Government of Cambodia’s decision to accept Afghan refugees was based on humanitarian principles.
The spokesperson made the clarification after Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen had recently announced that Cambodia would accept about 300 Afghan refugees to stay temporarily in the Kingdom before getting asylum in a third country.
Regarding the details such as when they arrive and how long they will stay in Cambodia, the spokesman said he had not have the information yet, and all he knew is only the Royal Government had decided in principle to accept Afghan refugees on humanitarian grounds.
Tens of thousands of Afghans have fled their country after the Taliban captured Kabul in mid-August.
