Development of Siem Reap’s Tourist Destinations for Long-Stay Foreign Visitors

The Ministry of Tourism has identified six tourist destinations to be developed so as to attract long-stay foreign tourists, according to the minister H.E. Thong Khon.

The six tourist destinations include Phnom Kulen National Park, Banteay Srei Protected Area, Angkor Heritage Site, Siem Reap Urban Area, Tonle Sap Lake Area, and the new Siem Reap tourist area -- thanks to its richness of natural resources and ancient temples.

Once fully developed and put into service, the destinations are expected to prolong the stay of foreign visitors to at least more than five days.

Siem Reap province, home to world famed Angkor Archaeological Park, is expected to welcome seven million international visitors and 11 million national tourists by 2025.

If realised, the targets will make an estimated US$5 billion as national income, and some 900,000 jobs for the locals.

In the first four months of 2022, the number of international tourists was 241,485, an increase by 191 percent compared to the same period last year, according to the record by the Ministry of Tourism.
