CONCERTS AT IPTA: PM TO MEET MOHE ON WEDNESDAY

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will meet with the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) this Wednesday to discuss the appropriate flexibility on the organisation of concerts at public institutions of higher learning (IPTA).

He said he would listen to views regarding the matter.

“I am not giving leeway for youths to be corrupted. It is important to safeguard your moral standards.

"The government will probably give relaxation in the organisation of programmes such as cultural events, but they should be held in a small scale and controlled manner," he said at the 'Meet Anwar' programme in Kelantan at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) Bachok, here today.

He was replying to a question raised by a student who wanted to know the government’s action following a concert that was held at a public university believed to be in Terengganu recently.

A 37-second video showing male and female students standing close together during the concert went viral on social media recently.

Meanwhile, a student at UMK Kota Campus, Khairul Anwar Kamal Apandi said the organisation of concerts at IPTA should be scrutinised to prevent unfortunate incidents, adding having concerts at IPTA could help students to de-stress, however, it should be monitored.
