Phnom penh: H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), recently convened a meeting with a delegation from the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), led by Mr. Yamada Yasuhiro, Senior Policy Officer, to discuss the progress of a feasibility study for the Cambodia-Japan Green Special Economic Zone (GSEZ) Development Project.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the meeting underscored the collaborative efforts between the Royal Government of Cambodia and ERIA in promoting sustainable economic development, aligned with Cambodia’s Pentagonal Strategy. The discussions focused on ensuring that the GSEZ Development Project will attract high-quality foreign direct investment (FDI), create job opportunities, and facilitate the transfer of modern technology, driving national economic growth in line with global green standards.
H.E. Deputy Prime Minister highlighted new investment opportunities in Cambodia, particularly the success of the Reciprocal Trade Agreement (RTA) with the United States. He noted that Cambodia is the first country to sign this agreement with the U.S., which provides clarity and confidence for foreign investors, including those from Japan, aiming to export products to the U.S. market.
Additionally, he emphasized the strategic role of the Funan Techo Canal Project in enhancing logistics flow, reducing transport costs, and ensuring efficient waterway connectivity. The Deputy Prime Minister expressed appreciation for ERIA’s support and active participation in the study, viewing it as a foundational basis for future decision-making regarding the project’s implementation.
He conveyed gratitude for the cooperation with ERIA and encouraged continued collaboration with the CDC to advance the project effectively.
