CAMSOC: Cambodia Achieves Three Key Successes from SEA Games 2023

Cambodia has attained three major achievements from the hosting of the 32nd SEA Games, affirmed H.E. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Tourism and Secretary General of the Cambodian SEA Games-ASEAN Para Games Organising Committees (CAMSOC-CAMAPGOC).

The first one is the great success of the official opening ceremony of the 32nd SEA Games, which took place on May 5, 2023 at Morodok Techo National Stadium in Phnom Penh, said here this morning H.E. Vath Chamroeun after attending a press conference on Thailand’s hosting of the 33rd SEA Games in 2025, adding that the event featured a special and amazing spectacle on Cambodian history, culture and current development.

“The number of medals that Cambodia has won from the regional games as the host country is our second achievement,” he underlined. “Standing fourth out of 11 countries (on the Medal List) makes a history for Cambodia since its participation in the SEA Games.”

The third achievement is that the masses and the media have captured great images, especially that of Cambodian runner Bou Samnang who refused to give up until she completed her 5,000-metre race under torrential rain, which reflects the sporting spirit.

“Bou Samnang has become the symbol of the Olympics, no winning nor losing, but the same language of heart for all sports lovers,” H.E. Vath Chamroeun stressed.

In addition, the host country offers free entry for all spectators, free accommodation and food delegates, and free broadcasting rights for media partners. This reaffirms the Kingdom's commitment to hosting the sports to further boost regional unity and friendship

To sum up, he said, the hosting of the 32nd SEA Games by Cambodia for the first time after waiting for 64 years is “a great success and worthy of our efforts”.
