Phnom penh: The Cambodian Veterans Association has undergone a significant transformation, officially being renamed the Cambodian Veterans and Retirees Association, with its membership now extended to encompass all retirees from the public administration sector. This pivotal decision was reached during the association’s Extraordinary Congress held at the Ministry of Interior in Phnom Penh. The event was chaired by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, who serves as the Acting Head of State, a five-star General, and the President of the association.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Samdech Techo Hun Sen was reaffirmed as the permanent President of the Cambodian Veterans and Retirees Association, as announced in a press release following the meeting. During his address, Samdech Techo Hun Sen proposed the establishment of association branches within all ministries and institutions. This initiative aims to ensure that veterans and retirees remain interconnected and receive necessary support.
The Extraordinary Congress also unanimously accepted the association’s 10-year work report, covering the period from 2015 to 2025, and set forth its future directions by adopting a nine-point resolution. Additionally, the meeting endorsed a new statute for the Cambodian Veterans and Retirees Association, comprising 16 chapters and 44 articles.
The Congress conveyed its appreciation to the Royal Government, relevant ministries and institutions, local authorities, and philanthropic individuals for their ongoing support. This support includes contributions in financial, material, and spiritual forms, as well as assistance with land allocation and house construction for veterans, aligned with the nation’s economic progress.
Furthermore, a sub-decree dated August 11, 2025, from the Royal Government of Cambodia has designated May 12 as Veterans and Retirees Day, to be observed annually.
