Melaka: H.E. Huot Hak, Cambodian Minister of Tourism, engaged in discussions with ASEAN Secretary-General H.E. Dr. Kao Kim Hourn in Melaka, Malaysia. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the ASEAN Tourism Ministers’ Retreat and the World Tourism Conference.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the dialogue primarily centered on Cambodia’s contributions to the ASEAN tourism sector’s development. The discussions emphasized promoting sustainable tourism, enhancing the tourism workforce’s capacity, and improving the region’s tourism quality.
The Minister highlighted that peace, political stability, security, and order are crucial foundations for development across all sectors, with tourism being a significant component of the national economy.
In terms of cooperation, the ASEAN Secretariat affirmed its commitment to supporting Cambodia’s initiatives, focusing on ASEAN guidelines for digital literacy in tourism, green tourism businesses, the ASEAN tourism green fund, hygiene and safety guidelines, and engaging ASEAN External Partners in promoting sustainable and responsible tourism.
