Cambodian Students in Hungary Laud Prime Minister Hun Manet’s Diplomatic Success in Thailand Border Resolution

Phnom penh: Cambodian students and nationals residing in Hungary have voiced strong approval and delight over Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet’s successful diplomatic efforts, which culminated in a peaceful resolution to the long-standing border dispute with Thailand.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the expressions of support and appreciation follow the signing of the Joint Declaration on the Peace Deal between the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Royal Government of Thailand. The agreement was finalised in Kuala Lumpur on Oct. 26, facilitated by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the current ASEAN Chair, and with the acknowledged, indispensable role of U.S. President Donald J. Trump.

These sentiments were conveyed to Samdech Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, on Oct. 26 afternoon during her official visit to Hungary, where she met with Cambodian students. The Cambodian students were quick to emphasise that the landmark achievement was a testament to Prime Minister Hun Manet’s ‘intelligent, flexible, and people-centred diplomacy.’ They noted that the dispute was resolved through peaceful means and bilateral mechanisms, fully adhering to international law, the UN Charter, and the ASEAN Charter.

The students commended the Royal Government’s patience and commitment to peace, which they credited with preventing the situation from escalating while firmly protecting Cambodia’s territorial integrity without yielding ‘even a single millimetre of land.’

Ms. Cheap Lily, President of the Cambodian Students Association in Hungary, confirmed that the students had been closely monitoring the border developments. She expressed deep gratitude to the Royal Government, led by Prime Minister Hun Manet and Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, for their ‘patience and wisdom’ in pursuing a peaceful solution.

‘The Cambodian Royal Government’s patience has earned both domestic and international support,’ Ms. Lily stated. ‘This peace agreement is crucial for both Cambodian and Thai peoples who love peace, because peace is the foundation of development.’

Ms. Lily also highlighted the common goal shared by the 67 Cambodian students in Hungary-to acquire knowledge and skills to contribute to Cambodia’s socio-economic development. ‘Furthermore, we are always mindful and responsible in all our activities… striving to uphold the identity and dignity of being Cambodian,’ Ms. Lily added. She stressed their belief that these actions contribute to strengthening friendship and people-to-people ties between Cambodia and Hungary.

Cambodia’s Ambassador to Hungary, H.E. Chheang Thyra, reiterated that all Cambodian nationals in the country were delighted with Prime Minister Hun Manet’s leadership, which he said ‘continues the legacy of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the Father of Peace in Cambodia.’ The Ambassador expressed profound gratitude for the diplomatic, patient, and determined approach-guided by international law-that led to the agreement, restoring normalcy and ensuring stability and prosperity along the border.

Currently, 67 Cambodian students, including 30 women, are pursuing postgraduate studies in Hungary in fields such as engineering, agriculture, environment, construction, food science, architecture, and technology.

In her response, National Assembly President Samdech Khuon Sudary thanked the students for their unwavering trust and support. ‘As Cambodians, we are truly fortunate to have Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet leading our nation toward peace, progress, and prosperity,’ she concluded, noting Cambodia’s growing reputation on the international stage.
