Cambodian Remittances on the Rise

Remittances from Cambodian migrant workers are expected to increase to US$2.720 million by the end of this year, due to the rise in the number of Cambodian workers abroad, the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training said on Oct. 12.

The 1.3 million Cambodian workers abroad would send home some US$2,720 million as remittances this year, up 3.4 percent from US$2,630 million recorded last year, the ministry’s report stated.

Cambodian migrant workers have become a vital momentum in boosting the country’s economic growth and promoting families’ living standards through remittances, as well as in bringing skills and experiences to contribute to the national development, it added.

Cambodian migrant workers are currently employed in seven countries, said the report, adding that some 1.22 million of them are working in Thailand.

The other six countries are South Korea, Malaysia, Japan, Singapore, China’s Hong Kong, and Saudi Arabia.
