Cambodian PM Urges for More Efforts on Market Maintenance and Diversification

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has called on all stakeholders to work together on market maintenance and diversification. At the closing ceremony of an annual meeting to review the commerce works in 2023 and set forth new goals for 2024, held here this afternoon, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said we have to maintain and strengthen old markets while expanding new markets for Cambodian products. 'New market diversification has to be done, but existing market must be kept and strengthened by ensuring credibility through quality enhancement,' the Premier underlined. Currently, Cambodia has two bilateral FTAs with China and Korea, which came into force in January and December 2022, respectively. Besides, the Kingdom also put into force the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), a mega-regional trade pact composed of 15 Pacific countries. Recently, Cambodia has also reached a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement with the United Arab Emirates. From January to November this year, Cambodia's international trade was valued at more than US$43.5 billion, a year-on-year increase of 9.7 percent. The Kingdom exported some US$21 billion worth of goods to foreign markets, up 4 percent compared to the same period last year. The U.S., Vietnam, China, and Japan are the Kingdom's biggest markets with exports of US$8.1 billion, US$2.6 billion, US$1.3 billion, and US$1 billion, respectively. Ministry of Commerce remains committed to further efforts to boost trade, said H.E. Mrs. Cham Nimul, Minister of Commerce. 'The Ministry of Commerce continues to deepen the reform and improve the quality of the ministry's public service delivery through automation system, reduction of both costs and time, maintenance of price stability and promotion of domestic trade, market development and private sector development,' she said. Cambodia's main products exported are garments, machinery and electrical equipment, footwear products, leather goods, grain, furniture, rubber, fruits, vegetables , pearls, toys, and textiles.
