Cambodian NA President: APPF Plays Key Role in Maintaining Peace and Stability

The Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF) has been playing a key role contributing to maintain peace, stability, progress and prosperity for the people in the region and around the world.

The remark was made by Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, President of the National Assembly (NA) of Cambodia, at the Plenary Session of the 30th APPF Annual Meeting held in Bangkok, Thailand this morning.

The NA president stressed that economic recovery in the aftermath of the COVID-19 crisis is a necessary and priority task and that the APPF must work together to achieve a more inclusive and resilient recovery by enhancing the digital and financial inclusion, social protection, gender equality and people-centered development.

As the world is facing challenges such as geopolitical tension, economic downturn, security threat, war in Ukraine and so on, Samdech Heng Samrin called for respect of international law, especially the UN Charter, to promote democracy and human rights respect.

Taking the opportunity, the NA president mentioned the hosting of the 43rd ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) of the Cambodian Parliament and invited all AIPA members and observers to attend the event in Phnom Penh from Nov. 20 to 25, 2022.
