Phnom penh: Information Minister H.E. Neth Pheaktra called on journalists Wednesday to exercise heightened caution when producing and sharing breaking news, warning that speed must not come at the expense of accuracy or lead to the spread of disinformation.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Minister emphasised the need for journalists to maintain high professional standards amid the rapid growth of digital media and social networks during an orientation session on media ethics and responsible reporting. H.E. Pheaktra addressed an audience of over 100 participants at the Ministry of Information's Media Training Centre, underscoring the importance of truth, accuracy, and verified sources in news reporting.

The orientation specifically targeted night-shift reporters, media outlets involved in live news coverage, and officials from key ministerial departments, including Information and Public Relations, Legal Affairs, Audiovisual, and Inspection. The Minister highlighted that journalists must avoid content that compromises public dignity, social morality, or national cultural values.

H.E. Pheaktra further noted that the ongoing guidance is designed to reinforce media roles and responsibilities, especially during fast-moving events, ensuring that public reporting remains accurate, balanced, ethical, and respectful of individual rights.
