Cambodian and Thai Leaders Pledge to Uphold Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration for Peace and Cooperation


Kuala lumpur: The leaders of Cambodia and Thailand have reaffirmed their commitment to the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration, a framework aimed at fostering peace, cooperation, and prosperity between the two nations. Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and Thai Prime Minister H.E. Anutin Charnvirakul reiterated their intentions during a bilateral meeting held on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.



According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the discussion between the two leaders centered on the Joint Declaration signed on October 26, 2025. The signing was witnessed by notable figures including H.E. Donald J. Trump, President of the United States of America, and H.E. Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia. Prime Minister Hun Manet emphasized that the declaration marks significant progress since the ceasefire agreement, which has been crucial in maintaining stability along the shared border.



Prime Minister Hun Manet highlighted the importance of the Joint Declaration’s implementation as a shared responsibility for both nations. He pointed out that through bilateral mechanisms, both countries have already agreed on the next steps, and it is vital to implement these agreements with sincerity and good faith for mutual benefit.



As neighboring countries, Hun Manet stressed the necessity of continued collaboration to ensure peace, harmony, and shared prosperity for future generations. He also called for the release of 18 Cambodian soldiers, in line with the humanitarian provisions of the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration.



Additionally, Hun Manet expressed his condolences to the Thai Prime Minister for the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother. Prime Minister Anutin thanked him for his kind words and Cambodia’s sympathy during this time of mourning.
