Cambodian and French National Assembly Leaders Discuss Peace, Digital Initiatives, and Francophonie Cooperation


Paris: Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, met with Hon. Ya«l Braun-Pivet, President of the National Assembly of the French Republic, during the 8th Edition of the Paris Peace Forum in Paris, France.



According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, during their meeting, Samdech Khuon Sudary updated her counterpart on the recent Cambodia-Thailand Peace Agreement, signed on October 26, 2025, by the Prime Ministers of both countries during the 47th ASEAN Summit in Malaysia. This agreement was witnessed by the ASEAN Chair and the President of the United States. Samdech Khuon Sudary underscored Cambodia’s commitment to peace, highlighting the nation’s historical aversion to conflict due to past experiences.



The Cambodian Assembly President expressed appreciation for France’s ongoing support, particularly its technical assistance, including the provision of border maps, which are based on the Franco-Siamese Treaty of 1904 and 1907. These treaties provide a legal framework for border demarcation.



Samdech Khuon Sudary also discussed the Digital Parliament Project, which is supported by France and contributes to modernising Cambodia’s legislative framework. This initiative is part of Cambodia’s transition toward a fully digital E-Parliament, aimed at enhancing public service delivery, transparency, accountability, and governance.



Hon. Ya«l Braun-Pivet applauded Cambodia’s achievement in securing a peace deal with Thailand, which she described as a crucial step toward peace and stability in the region. She also commended Cambodia’s preparations for hosting the 20th Francophonie Summit in 2026, noting the French National Assembly’s establishment of a working group to support the summit’s success.



Braun-Pivet highlighted the importance of collective efforts within the Francophonie community to enhance cooperation across various sectors such as education, culture, economy, tourism, and the environment. She emphasized that Francophonie is a shared responsibility among its member countries.



Before concluding their discussions, Samdech Khuon Sudary extended an invitation to Hon. Ya«l Braun-Pivet to lead a delegation from the French National Assembly on an official visit to Cambodia. This visit aims to further strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the two national assemblies and their respective nations.
