Phnom penh: Cambodia has called for the full implementation of international legal obligations to safeguard children affected by armed conflicts, expressing deep concern over the growing number of grave violations committed against children worldwide. Speaking at the United Nations Security Council Open Debate on Children and Armed Conflict, H.E. Keo Chhea, Permanent Representative of Cambodia to the United Nations, emphasized the urgency of the issue.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, more than 6,400 children in Cambodia remain displaced, highlighting the critical importance of maintaining access to education. H.E. Keo Chhea drew attention to Cambodia's 'Sala Camp' initiative, which plays a pivotal role in supporting the continued education of displaced children, and stressed the necessity of ensuring child-sensitive humanitarian assistance for those affected by displacement.
The Cambodian envoy reaffirmed the Kingdom's commitment to collaborating with all partners to ensure that every child can live, learn, and thrive free from violence and fear.
