Cambodia, Thailand Convene RBC Secretariat Meeting Under ASEAN Observation

Cambodia: Cambodia and Thailand held a meeting of the Regional Border Committee (RBC) Secretariat on Monday to discuss ongoing border issues, reaffirming their commitment to reducing tensions and advancing cooperation in line with existing bilateral agreements.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia, stated that the meeting took place at 11:50 a.m. at the Choam-Sa Ngam International Point of Entry in Anlong Veng district, Oddar Meanchey province. The talks were conducted between secretariat teams of Cambodia's Military Region 4 and Thailand's Army Area 2, under the observation of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) from both countries.

The spokeswoman noted that as the two sides have not yet reached common ground, they agreed to return to their respective headquarters to continue exchanging documents and negotiations until a consensus is achieved. This will be followed by a formal signing ceremony and a Cambodia-Thailand RBC meeting between the 4th Military Region of Cambodia and the 2nd Army Area of Thailand.

The special RBC meeting was convened in the spirit of the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) held on Dec. 27, 2025. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to fully implementing the outcomes of that meeting, while continuing efforts to de-escalate border tensions and pursue practical cooperation aimed at promoting regional peace, stability, and a swift return to normalcy.
