Phnom penh: The Royal Government of Cambodia has lodged another formal protest against Thailand's continued violations of Cambodia's sovereignty and territorial integrity in Ampil commune, Banteay Ampil district, Oddar Meanchey province.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on June 27 detailed how, between early June and June 23, 2026, Thai armed forces conducted forest-clearing operations and installed barbed wire near Boundary Pillar No. 26, further intruding into Cambodian territory.
These actions are reported to contravene Article 5 of the Memorandum of Understanding between Cambodia and Thailand on the Survey and Demarcation of the Land Boundary, signed on June 14, 2000. They also violate Item I (De-escalation Measures) of the Joint Statement from the 3rd Special Meeting of the General Border Committee on Dec. 27, 2025, where both nations agreed to refer to the Joint Boundary Commission to resume survey and demarcation efforts based on existing agreements.
The Royal Government of Cambodia emphasized its rejection of any unilaterally asserted boundary lines or territorial claims by Thailand, stating that these activities should not impact Cambodia's legal rights or its international boundary stance.
Cambodia has called on Thailand to halt such actions, urging them to honor commitments to de-escalate tensions, build mutual trust, and facilitate peaceful dispute resolution to maintain peace and stability along the border.
The Cambodian government remains committed to resolving all boundary disputes with Thailand, as well as other neighboring countries, through peaceful means, in accordance with international law and bilateral agreements, while maintaining that borderlines should not be altered through force.
