Phnom Penh:Cambodia is set to accommodate both national and international media coverage for the 20th Francophonie Summit, taking place in Phnom Penh this November. Hundreds of journalists are anticipated to cover this event, marking the first time the Kingdom will host such a significant international summit, according to Minister of Information H.E. Neth Pheaktra.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Neth Pheaktra discussed media and communications preparations during a presentation to advance delegations from various countries at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel on October 2. As the chair of Sub-Commission 3 on Media and Communications, he emphasized that comprehensive arrangements have been made to ensure journalists can effectively report on the summit with access to necessary facilities and information.
The Francophonie Summit is scheduled for November 14-16 in Phnom Penh, under the theme "Reinvest in Peace for Shared Prosperity and Sustainable Stability." Online registration for media organizations started on August 10 and will conclude on November 2. By the end of September, 45 media organizations from 17 countries had registered, with around 500 Cambodian journalists expected to attend.
Journalists accredited for the event will receive identification badges and guidance on participation and reporting assignments. Cambodia has also established mechanisms to facilitate the entry of foreign media personnel and their equipment.
A dedicated media center will be operational from November 13 to 16, offering workspaces, press conference rooms, internet access, technical support, and other services essential for news coverage. These preparations are part of Sub-Commission 3's efforts to ensure smooth operations for local and foreign journalists, providing ample access to information for reporting to audiences globally.
The summit will feature a range of cultural, economic, and digital activities, including the Village de la Francophonie, highlighting the diverse cultures and arts of French-speaking countries. Economic and digital initiatives, especially FrancoTech, will also be organized to promote the teaching, learning, and promotion of the French language.
The 20th Francophonie Summit is a significant event for the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF) and the promotion of Francophonie in Asia.
