Cambodia Marks 66th Anniversary of Membership in the United Nations

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has expressed his congratulations to the 66th Anniversary of Cambodia's membership in the United Nations.

“December 14, 2021 is the 66th anniversary of Cambodia's accession to the UN (Dec. 14, 1955 – Dec. 14, 2021). UN is the largest international organisation in the world, established on Oct. 24, 1945, after the end of World War II (1939 -1945),” he wrote in a message on his official Facebook page this morning.

The main aim of UN is to maintain international peace and security, promote international cooperation under international law, develop the economy, intervene in dispute resolution between member states, and avoid world wars, he said.

“Cambodia has been actively involved in peacekeeping and stabilisation operations, and over the past 10 years, our country has sent abroad many blue helmet troops, both women and men,” he underlined.

According to the Premier, Cambodian peacekeepers have been deployed to Sudan, South Sudan, Lebanon, Central Africa, Syria, Cyprus, Mali, etc.

The Cambodian blue helmet troops specialise in engineering, level 2 healthcare, mine clearance, explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) and so on, he pointed out.
