Cambodia Committed to Steer the Process of Consolidating Efforts within ASEAN and External Partners

Cambodia as the ASEAN Chair will continue to steer the process of consolidating efforts, internally within ASEAN and with ASEAN Dialogues Partners and external partners, to achieve the ASEAN’s goal of building an ASEAN Community that is peaceful, cohesive, inter-connected, resilient, and as a community of opportunities.

H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said in his welcome remarks at the opening ceremony of the 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and Related Meetings in Phnom Penh on Aug. 3.

“Within the next three days, we will engage in a series of important ministerial meetings, where we will have the opportunity to deliberate on key issues pertaining to the progress made in our ASEAN Community-building efforts, the way forward to recover stronger from the Covid-19 pandemic, our cooperation and partnerships with external partners, and on regional and international issues, especially many pressing security challenges that could destabilise our regional peace and stability if ASEAN is not able to handle them properly,” he added.

“I hope that our open and constructive exchanges will enable us to chart the course of our future cooperation in order to attain the priorities and deliverables as set out in Cambodia’s ASEAN Chairmanship,” he said.

Cambodia has been hosting the 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and Related Meetings from July 29 to Aug. 5.
